5 Minute Friday: Last

I am back to join my people to write our 5 minutes brave, bold and brilliant. I'm taking these words to heart this week and I hope you will to.

"Let your words be anything but empty. Why don't you tell them the truth? Say what you want to say."
~ Sara Bareilles

Join all us and write your five minutes, maybe just this one time?

My 5 minutes on "Last"

I dig the fork into the last of the chocolate cake. The piece that my sweet husband had sneaked home to give me because he knew...he just knew. It crumbles as I crumble into the couch, tired, done, nothing left to give.

The to-do list grows longer and my patience is increasingly short and I wonder if there will ever be light at the end of the tunnel, if the burden will ever feel light. I cling to the Word and measure with shaking hands what is the height and depth of extravagant grace.

So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love,  may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
{Ephesians 3:14-19 ESV}

This scraping to get by and get things done? Brothers, sisters, It will not last.

The long labor of life is a blink and then? Then we have forever and forever for the blood bought, grace covered is filled with but one "to-do".  One glorious exhale of the broken and needy as we sing out that we walked in shadows to get to the light, His light, which is all light and no darkness to be found. This world? This desperate-try-hard world was not meant to last and when at last our strength fails He is there.

The invisible, the more real than real world of faith hope and love? That is the stuff of life.

But here in the present there are long days and broken relationships and hard places. Know that it is a moment, like holding your breath until you can't anymore, and then soon we will exhale.

Inhale deep. Exhale long. Hope wide.
